This week a much needed new ramp was installed behind the Co-op to help staff get from the warehouse to the store.

We have a NEW sign on the storefront facing Biltmore Avenue!

Soon, construction crews will begin building the new elevated floor, which will sit 18 inches above the existing concrete slab. Look for a new sign on the front of the store, coming in the early part of August!

Construction is moving along well, and we’re excited to share another behind-the-scenes look at the progress. One of the newest structural beams is now in place, bringing us one step closer to a larger, improved space.
We’re making a mess in the name of BULK and FRESH Foods. Stay tuned; rumor has it the Bulk room is growing! We can’t wait to share more as the project comes together.
You may also notice a change to the old Coca-Cola chimney stack. During construction, our team discovered that the top portion had become unstable and deteriorated beyond repair. For safety reasons, the top 15 feet were carefully removed ahead of the roof replacement.
This building has been home to the Co-op for 30 years, after our move from the French Broad Riverfront. While it’s always bittersweet to see a familiar landmark change, we like to think it’s fitting that the old Coca-Cola stack is making way for the next chapter of the Co-op.

Construction is officially underway at the Co-op, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.
You may notice some construction activity around the building, including occasional noise, some construction dust, and temporary adjustments to store entrances.
We’re working hard to keep disruptions to a minimum while creating an even better shopping experience as we continue serving Asheville with local, organic, and community-focused food.
May 27, 2026 Update
Expansion round 3 is off to an exciting start. Since 2020, the Co-op has been rehabbing and expanding its 120-year-old buildings. From new checkout room and coolers, to new roofs, new kitchen, fixing foundations, creating more storage space, and more.
This phase is all about new retail space! All remaining administrative and behind the scenes spaces will be relocated to building 2, and the store will be bigger, brighter, and easier to shop than ever before. We’re growing your favorite departments, too. Produce, Grab & Go, Cheese, and Bulk will all grow in exciting ways.
Rest assured, there will be no interruptions to the shopping experience, no interruptions to parking, and work is expected to last the remainder of the year.
